The 2019 RAM 1500 "Mild Hybrid" Sets Sights on Glory With Innovative New Guts

Long known as one of the most comfortable and formidable pickup trucks out there, the 2019 RAM 1500 launched at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) this year is adding more than a little to its skillset in the next generation. Thanks to lightweight materials and a new "eTorque" system, the latest half-ton out of Auburn Hills stands on its own with promises that will have the hardworking types of South Carolina more than "mildly" excited!

Once upon a time, the approaching star-like crosshairs in your rearview mirror were the sign that you were in the presence of formidable gut and glory. But in the new 1500 pickup, there's no need to draw targets--especially when you drive one of the most innovative pickups out there.

But for all it's electrical underpinnings, the two engines available at launch will be known quantities to most. Returned are the Pentastar V6 with 305 horsepower, and the legendary HEMI V8 with 395. The next generation of TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmissions is the standard shift-manager, but it's the 48-volt battery setup instead of the alternator where traditions begin to diverge.

The 48-volt system powers the eTorque technology, which regenerates power through braking similar to many of the hybrids you may know. Like those some of those models, this system can provide additional acceleration "boost," but unlike those electric wedges, the capable RAM has the ability to tow 12,750 lbs (just short of class leadership), and 2,320 lbs. of payload. In short, a Prius or Ioniq with a truck bed, this is not--Guts, Glory, and work ethic continue to rule the road.

Although with more class-exclusive offerings such as fluid heating, alongside ride and handling innovations, the all-new truck continues to promise the kind of capability the hardiest work requires. Soon, it can be made your own at our RAM Trucks dealership in Hardeeville, SC. Contact us to learn more about arrival and availability!
